Samarinda 20/12/2012. UNMUL Tropical Course on Rainforest and Marine Biodiversity (RMB) has been done. it was carried out for 10 days (09-18 November 2012). This course was organized by International Affairs Directorate of Mulawarman University and officialy opened by Prof. Dr. Afif Ruchaemi, vice rector for Academic. At the opening speech, he said that the course is a progressive step for UNMUL to be recognized as a world class university. the participants will tell their experience about East Kalimantan to their friend in their own country.

After two days in class meeting for enrichment about forest and forestry of East Kalimantan, streams and Mahakam river ecosystems the course continued for field practice in UNMUL Botanical Garden as well as Pampang, a Dayak's traditional village. And then trip to Bontang coastal area for observing mangrove forest and coral reef biodiversity.

The participants are foreigner student, came from various country (Canada, Poland, Belgium, Slovakia, Japan, and Brunei Darussalam). they all felt exited to this program. since all most of them come from not tropical country and of their first time to observed and touched coral reefs directly. so, that was unforgetted experience for them. snorkeling in the morning, observing mangrove forest in the afternoon and sleeping in the fisherman house at night. it was such a nice souvenier from The University of Mulawarman.
